It belongs to the family known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID), and specifically a sub-group known as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors. It is used in adults for the relief of signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. In conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, excess production of prostaglandins by your body can lead to pain and inflammation. Celebrex 100mg Tablet works by decreasing the production of prostaglandins, effectively reducing pain and inflammation.
Do not take Celebrex 100mg Tablet if you are allergic to Celebrex 100mg Tablet or any of its ingredients. In a post published in theJournal of the American Medical Association, Dr. Collins wrote that the drug Celebrex is linked to increased mortality, cardiovascular events, and a number of cancers, including the colon and breast. This may be of concern because the drug was previously used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, a condition in which inflammation is linked to cancer. She cited a recent study of a group of patients on Celebrex who had previously died. In the study, her team found that, of the 22,906 patients on Celebrex, only 2.2% had had one of the underlying diseases (colorectal cancer or colon cancer) and the other 22% were not on the drug.
The researchers looked at data from a small group of patients treated for osteoarthritis. They found that, among the patients on Celebrex, the number of deaths related to colon cancer and cardiovascular events were reduced compared with patients treated with the drug alone. The researchers found that there was a significant association between Celebrex use and a decrease in the rates of death from cardiovascular events. However, the researchers did not find a difference in the rate of death from colon cancer between patients treated with the drug alone and patients treated with the drug.
